These terms explain how you may use NextStep. By using the website you agree to them - if you don't, please don't use the site.

What NextStep is not

NextStep is an independent guide. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for the University Grants Commission (UGC) or any university or institute.

We aren't an admissions service - we can't apply to a university for you, and we can't guarantee admission to any course.

A free, independent guide for students in Sri Lanka - degrees, Z-score cut-offs, private and external degrees, postgraduate study and career pathways.

02Where our information comes from

Public, official sources: the UGC Student Handbook and Z-score lists, university handbooks and institutes' websites. Each degree page shows its source. Always confirm important details with the UGC or the university - the official source wins.

Using NextStep

Search results, your account, and fair use

03Search results

Results and pathways are matched automatically from the published data, so a match may not fit every situation. Treat them as a starting point and check the degree page and official source before you decide.

04Your account

  • Use a real name and an email you can access.
  • Keep your password private - you're responsible for activity on your account.
  • You can ask us to delete your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy).
  • We may suspend accounts that misuse the service.

05Fair use

Please don't:

  • copy or download the site's content in bulk
  • use automated tools to scrape or overload the site
  • try to break or get around the site's security
  • use the site for anything unlawful, or to mislead others
  • pretend to be NextStep, the UGC or a university

Legal details

Names and images, other websites, liability and changes

06Names, logos and images

University, institute and UGC names belong to their owners and are used only to identify them. Campus photos come from Wikimedia Commons under Creative Commons licences and are credited where shown. If you own content here and want it changed or removed, contact us.

07Links to other websites

We link to official university, institute and UGC websites for your convenience. We don't control their content or availability, and their own terms apply.

08No guarantees

NextStep is free and provided "as is". As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for losses from relying on it - such as a missed deadline or an incorrect cut-off. Rights you have under Sri Lankan law that can't be limited still apply.

09Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and using the site after a change means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka.
